Project Literacy Kelowna
Kelowna, British Columbia

We match adults who want to upgrade their literacy skills (English or math) with suitably skilled volunteer tutors. We provide our tutor-learner pairs with lesson plans, learning resources and ongoing support. At given time we manage more than 100 tutor learner matches.

Approximately two thirds of our learners are new to Canada. Approximately 75% of all our learners (those born here as well as those born elsewhere) need to upgrade their literacy skills in order to enhance their employability.

Many of our learners are trying to get a college education. They may have dropped out of high school, or maybe they graduated but didn’t do well enough in English or math to get into, say, a trades or healthcare program. Others can’t afford the time or money to return to school but have to improve their literacy skills if they hope to find a job that pays enough to support them and perhaps a family.

Reachout To Africa
Kelowna, British Columbia

Reachout To Africa a Canadian Registered Charity (Reg # 840045074RR0001) is about making visible and significant changes in the lives of children, youth and young adults in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa and beyond. Every child is important and deserves the love and support of a caring adult.

We work with dedicated staff and leaders to effect that principal in the schools and areas where we are located. Many thousands of children and youth have been touched by our organization over the past 15 years. We have some of our children come through our program, gone on to become valuable leaders in our system and then onto to college or university or started their own businesses.

Results Canada
Ottawa, Ontario

Results is a nonprofit advocacy organization of passionate staff and volunteers committed to generating the political will to end extreme poverty in low- and middle-income countries. We focus our work on global health, access to quality education and economic opportunities.

What does political will mean? We believe in mobilizing everyday people (our volunteers) to influence the Government of Canada. We direct our energy and efforts at government decision makers like party leaders, Members of Parliament and senators because they have the power to improve policies and make the monetary investments needed to end extreme poverty. We also raise awareness by writing letters to the editor (LTEs) and op-eds, using social media, fundraising and more.

Oftentimes the first step is putting these issues on the radar — and keeping the pressure on. It might seem like a small step, but it all adds up into impact.
