The Kelowna Chapter is looking for new members to join the annual Gutsy Walk Committee for 2021! The Gutsy Walk is Crohn's and Colitis Canada's annual fundraising event which will be held virtually this year. Committee roles include Media Promotion Lead, Sponsorship Lead, and Digital leads. Crohn’s and Colitis Canada volunteers, in partnership with staff, are making a difference in the lives of children and adults living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Our coast-to-coast network of thousands of volunteers are leaders in their communities, using the gift of time and talents to help people with inflammatory bowel disease by providing professional skills, educating others, advocating for healthy public policy and helping to raise money so that Crohn’s and Colitis Canada can continue to fund critical research, patient programs, advocacy and awareness initiatives.
Ovarian Cancer Canada champions the health and wellbeing of women with ovarian cancer and others at risk of this disease while advancing research to save lives. As the only registered Canadian charity solely dedicated to overcoming ovarian cancer, the organization provides leadership in research, advocacy, and support, so that women live fuller, better, longer lives.
Ozanam Recovery House is a 19-bed transition home located in Kelowna, BC for adult men who are struggling with addictions, mental health issues, or both. With a permanent staff 24/7, and a core group of volunteers, Ozanam Recovery House focuses specifically on those individuals who show a motivation and desire to change. At Ozanam Recovery House, we believe that by making positive changes to your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being, you will learn to live without addictions and access a higher quality of life.

The Office of the Seniors Advocate is giving every resident in long-term care in the province a chance to share their experiences and tell us about their quality of life. The signature event is the annual Walk In Her Shoes event that takes place every March - it takes place in over 60 countries around the world (and across Canada) which is a fun, family friendly event where we walk 10,000 steps in solidarity with women and girls in the developing world. This is the average distance a woman or girl has to walk every day for the necessities of life, such as water, food and firewood. The event is largely volunteer run with CARE's staff support. The Okanagan walk committee has "adopted" a project to follow and support - Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies that addresses the root causes of malnutrition in Southern Africa (specifically in Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique). Specifically in 2017 CARE was: - present in 93 countries - provided emergency relief to more than 120,000 people from Myanmar - provided emergency nutrition support to 500,000 people in South Sudan - working on many long-term development projects that focus on: food, nutrition & resilience to climate change; sexual, reproductive & maternal health; women's economic empowerment. Financially, 96% of funds raised went directly to programs (3% administration and 1% fundraising).
Reachout To Africa a Canadian Registered Charity (Reg # 840045074RR0001) is about making visible and significant changes in the lives of children, youth and young adults in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa and beyond. Every child is important and deserves the love and support of a caring adult. We work with dedicated staff and leaders to effect that principal in the schools and areas where we are located. Many thousands of children and youth have been touched by our organization over the past 15 years. We have some of our children come through our program, gone on to become valuable leaders in our system and then onto to college or university or started their own businesses.
