Volunteer Assignment We live in a global society. You wish to find your role as a global citizen. We, Foundation for Advancement of Education in Myanmar, are a grassroots charitable foundation, registered in the province of Alberta, Canada, to implement complementary education programs to help achieve desired educational outcomes for all school children from non-government, underserved, under-resourced community schools in most needy communities in Myanmar. We are seeking a mature and reliable volunteer with relevant experience in setting up a Maker Space by designing a space to accommodate a wide range of creative, playful, engineering design-relevant learning activities of maker projects in collaboration, networking with Global Maker communities. The educator is to facilitate a School-based Professional Development Program for teachers at PDO campus in Mandalay, Myanmar. Position Title: Creativity Incubator Program Facilitator Project Title: Inclusive Access to Quality Education Duration: 4 weeks – 8 weeks (Flexible) Location, the Country: Mandalay, Myanmar Expected Staring Date: July 2017 (Flexible) Host Partner: Phaung Daw Oo Monastic Education Inclusive High School Background and Contextual Information Phaung Daw Oo Monastic Education High School is a registered charity (non-government) inclusive high school under Ministry of Religious Affairs in Mandalay, the second commercial capital of Myanmar. The school provides quality accredited education free to over 9,000 students from Kindergarten to High School, and room and board free for over 1000 students of them on campus. The students are from less fortunate families and includes orphans, the abused, the neglected, the abandoned and the vulnerable children of diverse indigenous ethnic groups from all around Myanmar. The Goals of the Assignment Realizing childhood as one of the most creative periods of our lives, creating a dedicated space for students to instill a maker mindset and thus nourish and develop their creativity is a key to help them learn how to extend and refine their creative abilities, and sustain it throughout life and ultimately, constantly inventing new possibilities for themselves and their communities. Expectations and Responsibilities The Educator shall assist in setting up a maker space, and innovatively developing educational contexts for a curriculum designed to develop cross-curricular competencies related to complex real world tasks and performance, and to produce life-long learners, student-centered focusing on the student’s interest, input and ideas, encouraging independence, open-ended promoting risk-taking, higher level thinking, creative thinking, group-interaction, freedom of choice, incorporating real life problems, real audiences through self-evaluation and real world audience evaluation. The educator shall provide a School-based Professional Development Program to the teachers and work with students (Standard 5 to Standard 8). The educator is expected to work up to 6 hours a day and 5 days a week. Travel and Accommodation Arrangement The host-partner, PDO will provide a decent accommodation with breakfast and lunch at PDO campus. FAE-Myanmar will provide a round trip air ticket the most direct and the most cost-effective route to and from Myanmar, Travel Accident Insurance and pay Visa fee and one time a walk-around money of MMK- 100,000 (C$ 108.00). There will be a pre-departure orientation session. FAE-Myanmar adopts Canadian Codes for Volunteer Involvement and will adhere to Screening Process developed by Volunteer Canada.
