Opportunity Description:

We are seeking a Child and Youth Volunteer who is energetic, personable, resourceful, well-organized, with great interpersonal skills, and who excels in a fast paced, challenging but fun work environment. If that sounds like you, then this is your ideal placement! Reporting directly to the Child & Youth Supervisor, the Child and Youth Volunteer will assist the Child & Youth Staff in the supervision of recreational programs and is a key team member to the Child & Youth Department. The Child and Youth Volunteer is responsible for assisting in the supervision and running of select programs offered throughout the day for ages 0-14. This position is also responsible for working with Staff to plan Y approved activities and instilling the Y’s core values of caring, respect, responsibility, honesty, and inclusiveness.  The Child and Youth Volunteer will provide support to all Child & Youth staff present during program times. Major Responsibilities and Abilities: Excellent communication skills & the ability to recognize & act to resolve problems Enjoy working with children while providing exceptional, quality care, for ages 0-14 years Enthusiastic, positive personality, resourceful, creative and organized. Assist in the preparation of equipment and supplies for all activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to work effectively and efficiently within a team environment, particularly with parents and children. A demonstrated ability to take initiative and take responsibility for safety and quality of child care. Ensuring that the staff/volunteer to child ratio is maintained at all times Qualifications: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Upon request provide 3 professional references. (eg. Employer, Supervisor, Teacher or Colleague) A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Volunteers will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than [six (6) months] preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork. Previous experience working with children is preferred but not necessary Current Standard First Aid and CPR C is an asset but not necessary National Lifeguard Standard and AED is an asset but not necessary.
