We need you! The Volunteer Tutor Literacy Program is seeking volunteers. Are you looking for a chance to help develop the literacy or numeracy skills in an adult learner? Or an opportunity to give back to our community? Our program, the VLTP, is based at Okanagan College. We are needing volunteers to work one on one with adult learners who are wanting to improve their own literacy or numeracy skills. Your commitment will be 1 to 2 hours per week, with your schedule to be determined by you and your learner. Tutoring can be done remotely over Zoom, Skype, Facetime, etc. or face to face at the college or another public meeting place. To start, you will attend a short intake meeting, followed by training, and then you can begin meeting with your learner. If you are interested, please call or email Rene at:

The Westbank Museum, located in West Kelowna, believes in the historical value of the cultural heritage of Westbank, its pioneers, and its community.
Mission:
Our mission is to be a cultural centre for the community and provide a repository dedicated to the ongoing collection, preservation, and interpretation of Westbank and the surrounding areas' history.
Vision:
The Westbank Museum recognizes that we have a responsibility to consult, advocate, and partner with all members of the community. We strive to provide inclusive and equitable care that listens to and better represents the history, stories, and experiences in Westbank and the surrounding communities.
What we do:
We maintain a collection of thousands of artifacts and archival documents at the museum, which require curation, care, and cataloguing to keep the collection up to date and accessible to the public. Additionally, we maintain museum displays highlighting the history of Westbank/West Kelowna. We also host small-scale art workshops in the community, as well as community events in and out of the museum, including the Haunted House at the Museum in late October, and the Westside Multiculturalism Day on the last Saturday of June. We are also involved in external community events, such as the Community Light Up in early December, and Westside Daze in July.
We are also the West Kelowna Visitor Centre.
BreakOut West, the Western Canadian Music Awards, and the Western Canadian Music Industry Awards are the primary events hosted by the Western Canadian Music Alliance – an organization created by the Music Industry Associations (MIA’s) of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, The Northwest Territories and the Yukon Territory – to promote and celebrate western Canadian music.
Each year the event is held in a different western Canadian region on a rotational basis. This year, the event will be held in Kelowna, BC, from October 10-14, 2018. This four-day event is comprised of a 4-day music conference, a 3-night multi-genre music festival, the Western Canadian Music Industry Awards Brunch and the Western Canadian Music Awards Reception.
The YMCA is a charity that ignites the potential in people, helping them grow, lead, and give back to their communities.
There is potential inside all of us. But obstacles can get in the way: fear, doubt, a lack of finances, isolation, discrimination. The Y believes that everyone has the skills and ability to achieve. That every obstacle can be met with support, positivity, and guidance. That every single person is worthy of the opportunity to shine. And when each of us shines, the collective strength of an entire community can be realized.
Our goal is not to fix people's challenges. Instead, we provide responsive programs and supports to help them tap into their full potential.
The YMCA of Okanagan was established over 35 years ago as a cause-driven charity with a mission dedicated to building healthy individuals and communities. We provide a wide range of programs and services with a focus on inclusiveness and accessibility, serving people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities through all stages of life.
