903 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps Sponsoring Society
Kelowna, British Columbia

The Royal Canadian Army Cadets (RCAC) is a Canadian national youth program sponsored by the Canadian Forces and the civilian Army Cadet League of Canada. Under the authority of the National Defence Act the program is administered by the Canadian Forces and funded through the Department of National Defence.

The Royal Canadian Army Cadets appeal to teenagers craving exciting outdoor activities where their personal limits as individuals and team-members will be tested. The hardcore outdoor-oriented will love the challenge!

Army cadets develop abilities in:
- Use of map and compass
- GPS technology
- Orienteering
- First-aid
- Camping and survival skills
- Canoeing
- Abseiling
- Trekking
- Mountain biking

As they get more experienced, some will be selected for parachuting, white-water rafting and glacier climbing. They will also learn to become outdoor leaders.

Army Cadets get involved in ceremonial military events and citizenship activities that allow them to connect to their Canadian heritage. They develop a great sense of pride and discipline through their involvement in a hierarchical system that allows them to hone their leadership skills as they grow older and they learn to care for younger cadets.

In addition to their specialty training, Army Cadets may become involved in other exciting activities like:
- Competitive Olympic-style marksmanship and biathlon
- Sports competitions
- Music training and competitions
- Cultural outings
- Volunteer community support

Canada represents the best playground for teenagers interested in the outdoors. We are the organization of choice for teens and adults interested in getting out of the classroom to explore the planet the way it should be.

The Army Cadet League of Canada provides funding and support for certain activities undertaken by the Corps. It is represented at the Corps level by a local Sponsoring Committee, which is made up of volunteers who are often parents of cadets. All parents automatically become members of the Sponsoring Committee and are encouraged to assist in whatever way they can.

Responsibilities include:
- Fundraising
- Public relations
- Operation of the canteen
- Special events
- Provision of transportation whenever cadets participate in activities away from the Corps headquarters

Across the Lake Swim
Kelowna, British Columbia

Canada's largest and longest running open water swim. In 2024, the ATLS is being held on Sat, Jul 20 and has added a shorter swim (1.4k) to go with the main Swim (2.1k). Any profits from the Swim go to funding the Drownproofing 101 (aka all grade 3 kids in SD23 receive free swim lessons). We look for volunteers mostly for the Finish Line area at City Park's Hot Sands Beach (at concession building) to assist swimmers in leaving the water, removing their race chips, and checking their gear. There will be a signup link for volunteers for all of the ATLS group of swims held in July & August on the website soon.
