Facility Location: Downtown YMCA, 1011-505 Doyle Ave, Kelowna, BC Position Purpose: Join the Fitness department at Kelowna Family YMCA by teaching classes for members of the YMCA community. If you’re someone who is passionate about fitness, loves to get people moving and have a knack for making amazing workout playlists then this opportunity is calling your name! When not teaching classes, you’ll be the main point of contact for those interested in various offerings available in the Fitness department and a guide around our Fitness equipment. Responsibilities and Duties: Prepare and plan for all classes Make sure your knowledge is up to date about equipment and exercises used in your class Ensure certifications are up to date Provide instruction aligned with YMCA fitness standards Demonstrate the YMCA core values Actively participate in and promote philanthropy through the YMCA Association initiatives, including the Strong Kids Campaign and other events (e.g. Healthy Kids Day) Qualifications: Upon request provide 3 references that are professional in nature (e.g. Employer, Supervisor or Colleague.) A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than [six (6) months] preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork. Degree or diploma in a fitness related field is an asset Current Weight Training/Personal Training Certificate by a recognized governing body (e.g. BCRPA, CFES, CSEP) an asset Expected Time Commitment: One hour of teaching weekly Any preparation needed for classes (Estimated one-two hours) Pre- Volunteer Training YMCA Child Protection and Volunteer Orientation Working one on one with Volunteer Coordinator to make sure there is an understanding of programs If interested, completion of the YMCA Coach Approach Certification Competencies: A commitment to the mission, vision and values of the organization: Demonstrates and promotes a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision, strategic outcomes and values of the Y.
