About Us

NITEO exists to support young readers to obtain critical literacy skills in order to build bright and hopeful futures.

We do this through local and global initiatives.

Locally, we run a Family Reading Program for newcomer/refugee families in Kelowna. Volunteers meet with families once/week during our Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions for an afterschool program focused on developing literacy skills through group activities, games, and time spent reading together.

Globally, we collect donations of gently used children's books to ship to partner organizations to establish community libraries in Uganda. We also provide literacy focused microgrants to partner organizations to further the work of literacy equity for all.
