Opportunity Description:

At the YMCA, volunteers offer their time and skills to our programs because they understand that the Y is so much more than a gym. It is a place for better health and development for ALL—kids, teens, seniors, entire families—in our community, no matter what they can or cannot financially afford. Everyone can belong at the Y. Parents or guardians can enjoy a workout or swim within the facility while their children are in the care of qualified staff and volunteers. We provide supervised play with age-appropriate toys, arts and crafts as well special care for babies. We need Childminding Volunteers who are enthusiastic, dedicated, fun-loving, and who are passionate about supporting the community. If that sounds like you, then this is your ideal place to help build healthy communities. Major Responsibilities and Abilities: Ensure children have a fun experience while in our care; giving parents an opportunity to use our facilities Responsible for welcoming all participants that use our service Provide quality care and a safe environment for the children Support and work as part of a staff and volunteer team Able to work independently as well as part of a team Able to follow direction and ask for clarification Optional Responsibilities Assist team in creating a calm, welcoming environment for all babies and children Clean and organize area Support the Y’s mission and values Qualifications: Enjoy working with children Able to communicate well with children and adults Resourceful and organized First Aid & CPR certifications considered an asset A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork. Upon request provide 3 references.  A minimum of 2 will be professional in nature (eg. Employer, Supervisor or Colleague) Commitment to Mission, Vision and Values: Demonstrates and promotes a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision and values of YMCA of Okanagan.
