We match adults who want to upgrade their literacy skills (English or math) with suitably skilled volunteertutors. We provide our tutor-learner pairs with lesson plans, learning resources and ongoing support. Atgiven time we manage more than 100 tutor learner matches.
Approximately two thirds of our learners are new to Canada. Approximately 75% of all our learners (thoseborn here as well as those born elsewhere) need to upgrade their literacy skills in order to enhance theiremployability.
Many of our learners are trying to get a college education. They may have dropped out of high school, ormaybe they graduated but didn’t do well enough in English or math to get into, say, a trades or healthcareprogram. Others can’t afford the time or money to return to school but have to improve their literacy skills ifthey hope to find a job that pays enough to support them and perhaps a family.

To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children, to earn the approbation of honest critics; to appreciate beauty; to give of one’s self, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived–that is to have succeeded.
